Ulla Heegaard // Visual Artist

Ulla Heegaard’s work falls into two tracks; one where we can find colourful paintings and on the other black and white paintings and graphics. The colorful paintings contain, among other things, a series of landscapes; which at first glance may look light and decorative, but when immersed have a gloomy mood. Ocher yellow tones color the sea / earth toxic and the sky has heavy, sometimes "sulfur-like", clouds that threaten nature. The series is called "The Climate Threat" and thus speaks into a very current debate about the state of the world and its future. The black-and-white pieces are abstract and focused around the theme of chaos through dynamic compositions. These pieces are a kind of snapshot, a frozen "now", where the forms of the motif could in a little while look completely different. Common to Ulla's work is the theme "impermanence"; a Buddhist concept that is about everything in life being changeable. The variability of the works lies in their themes and in the language of form.
